Participants have until 4pm on Friday 16 August 2019 to enter the competition, which encourages people to take a photo and write a short caption about their image and how they stay mentally healthy.
As part of a strong focus on positive mental health, the 2019 PhotoVoice Competition exhibition will also be held during Mental Health Week.
Photos submitted as part of the competition are required to illustrate an aspect of the Act-Belong-Commit theme which includes:
Act - keep mentally, physically, socially and spiritually active Belong - maintain and create new social connections, become involved in local groups, attend community events Commit - take up a cause, volunteer, commit to something that brings meaning and purpose to your life. Now in its 11th year, about 400 entries are submitted on average each year for the competition. Locals residents are featured “acting, belonging and committing” to stay mentally healthy in their everyday lives.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said photos could be entered under modified or non-modified styles, with categories open to entrants of all ages.
“The annual Act-Belong-Commit PhotoVoice Competition is an exciting opportunity for amateur photographers to showcase their skills,” Mayor Sammels said.
“There are a number of cash prizes available and this year will feature two additional categories - Standing Strong Together and Rockingham Foreshore.
“Entry to the competition is free, so I encourage as many people as possible to make a submission.” Selected photos will be displayed in a three-week exhibition at the Gary Holland Community Centre from Wednesday 18 September – Wednesday 9 October 2019. Images can be submitted electronically, via the online submission form.
