Council has receive a request to name the roadway as indicated on the attached plan, Parker Lane.
It is important for emergency services to have named roadways and the opportunity to recognise a prominent and respected, local family name is very appropriate.
Alan Nicholson Parker’s father, Albert, settled and cleared land on Tutye South Road in 1911. He lived in a ridgepole tent until building a mud slab hut for his wife, Isabella (nee Nicholson) and their two children Margaret and Alan.
Alan was born 8 August 1915, he grew up on the family property attending the Tutye State School. Alan married Ivy Joyce Beckmann on 9 February 1937 and they established their home on the original farm block where they raised three children, Hedley, Kenneth and Patricia.
Some of Alan’s many community contributions included involvement with Imperial (Cowangie and Tuyte) Football Club, Tutye Tennis Club and as Executive at Murrayville Football Club. Alan was a Councillor of the Shire of Walpeup from 1929 to 1939 including the position of President in 1934/1935.
Alan established the farm as AN Parker & Sons which continues to operate under this name by his son Hedley and grandsons Matthew and Sam. Alan’s great grandchildren are proud fifth generation Parker Tutye residents.
Alan was a hard working unassuming farmer who continued to help on the farm even after retirement. He passed away 30 January 2001 aged 85.
The name complies with the naming principles for the Naming rules for places in Victoria. Submissions on this proposal will be received up to 30 days from this notice.
