It is National Volunteer Week and this provides us with the perfect opportunity to celebrate and thank all volunteers in the Snowy Monaro for their outstanding contribution to local life.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of any community. Their dedication and commitment to improving the lives of those around them are highly commendable.
Here in the Snowy Monaro, volunteering is alive and well. No matter the organisation, the role you play or how long you have been a volunteer, your efforts are very much appreciated.
On Wednesday, Snowy Monaro Regional Library will host National Simultaneous Storytime in the Cooma Library. At 11am, around 80 children will listen to Councillor James Ewart read the much-loved story, Alpacas with Maracas.
More than one million participants at 8,000 locations across Australia enjoyed last year’s National Simultaneous Storytime.
If you can’t make it to the Cooma Library, Council will live stream the reading on our Facebook page at 11am.
The latest round of residential aged care community conversations is occurring this week. Meetings were held on Tuesday in Bombala and Cooma.
If you are interested in discussing what is happening in the residential aged care sector in the Snowy Monaro, please head along to any of the remaining conversations.
Meetings are being held on Wednesday in the Berridale Community Hall from 4pm to 5pm, and in the Jindabyne Memorial Hall from 6pm to 7pm.
Council still has a number of items out on public exhibition. Feedback will close at 5pm on Friday 24 May for the proposed changes to the operating hours of the Bredbo, Delegate, Nimmitabel and Numeralla transfer stations.
Council’s Waste Management Committee recommended that cost-saving measures be investigated to offset the decline in usage at these sites.
Surveys asking residents to choose their preferred operating hours can be found on Your Say Snowy Monaro or at any Council office.
