Shade ahead for the Botanic Gardens playground

Shade shelters will soon be installed over the playground and fitness equipment located on the western side of the Emerald Botanic Gardens.

The Central Highlands Regional Council will begin the foundation work for the structures on Tuesday 28 May 2019.

‘During the excavation phase, which is expected to take three weeks, some of the equipment will still be available for public use,’ Mayor Cr Kerry Hayes said.

‘However, it will be very noisy and the public should remain outside of fenced off areas at all times.’

Cr Hayes said upgrades to the carpark would also be completed at the same time, with a temporary designated parking area and public access point in place during construction.

He said once the foundations are finished, the entire playground will be closed from 10 June 2019 for two weeks to allow for the erection of the steel shelters.

‘I know this will be disappointing for some residents as we understand it is a very popular playground,’ he said.

‘But these kinds of projects are all about providing a safe environment for our children to enjoy. The added shade will mean the playground can be used at all times of the day, without the fear of little ones getting burnt on hot equipment or being exposed to too much sun.’

Cr Hayes said the project is expected to be completed by the start of the school holidays, which commence on 28 June 2019.
