Call for Nominations to Reconciliation Action Plan

Moree Plains Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from community members who would like to be considered for one of the two community member positions on Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group.

Council plays a leading role in reconciliation within our community through support of a range of National Reconciliation Week activities, the organisation’s ongoing Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre, which is recognised as an Aboriginal Heritage Keeping Place.

With a new draft Reconciliation Action Plan for the organisation underway, the RAP Working Group – comprising Council staff, elected Councillors, Representatives of Local Organisations and community representatives - will provide input into development of a new RAP and ensure that good intentions turn into measurable outcomes for the organisation.

Director of Corporate Services, Mitchell Johnson says that Council’s new Reconciliation Action Plan will “set out clear actions, responsibilities, timelines and targets for the organisation’s commitments to reconciliation”.

Since 2001, a number of strategies have been implemented across the organisation, which have resulted in a strong increase in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees within the organisation, growing from 6% in 2001 to approximately 18% in 2019. The rollout of the first Reconciliation Action Plan in 2014, has played a significant role in achieving this.

Nominations close Friday, 28 June 2019 and should include the nominee’s full name, contact details and outline professional and or personal experience in furthering reconciliation outcomes.
