In 2003 the Australian Prayer Network established the National Day of Thanks which recognises our Christian heritage and highlights the need for gratitude.
It’s a day to celebrate our way of life, to be thankful to each other and be grateful for family, friends and our faith. It allows all Australians to pause and to be thankful for the things we often take for granted.
It’s also a time to demonstrate our gratitude towards our fellow man.
This year I will be host again the ‘Mayoral Thanksgiving Day Dinner’ as part of the National Day of Thanks. The dinner will gather community members, representatives from the various local churches, schools and members of Council.
As part of the evening, Rev Bruce Cornish will be the guest speaker. Rev Bruce is a former primary school teacher and has served as a minister in Tully, Ingham, Mt Isa, Sandgate and is currently the minister at Townsville Central City Mission.
For almost 10 years Rev Bruce was the Presbytery Minister of North Queensland. This is similar to a Bishop role in the Anglican or Catholic church.
It will be a pleasure to welcome him to Charters Towers and to hear him speak.
The Dinner will be held at the Anne Street Church, Saturday 25 May at 6pm for a 6:30 start. Tickets are available from Council’s Administration Centre and cost is $15 per person. For further enquiries, contact Jenny Brown at Council on 4761 5332.
