Festival to celebrate reconciliation in Broome

National Reconciliation Week 2019 will be celebrated in Broome with a free family and community festival featuring live music and performances, art, children’s activities, food and more at Male Oval on Friday 31 May from 5pm to 10pm.

The Broome Reconciliation Week Festival 2019 is being coordinated by the Shire of Broome with funding from Lotterywest and support from a range of local community organisations.

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June each year and aims to help all Australians learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how everyone can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. 

The theme for the Broome Reconciliation Festival 2019 is: “A community celebrating together is a community growing together,” and the event will feature live music, community art, children’s activities, food stalls, community group displays, the Container Deposit Scheme and more. The event is alcohol and smoke free.

The exciting lineup of local entertainment includes Seaside Drifters, Jacob Gregory (Lyrical Instinct), King of Hearts, Torrina Torres and Ronnie Smith.

Broome Shire President, Harold Tracey, said the Broome Reconciliation Week Festival 2019 promised to be an exciting event and the whole community was encouraged to come along in support.

“Our aim is to put on a fun, free community festival, while at the same time bringing the community together to celebrate our town’s unique cultural heritage,” Cr Tracey said.
