Celebrating Our Amazing Group of Volunteers

Published on 24 May 2019

Baw Baw Shire Council’s team of dedicated volunteers have been celebrated today at the annual National Volunteer Week event held in their honour.

The event, held at the Warragul Cinemas, is one of thousands held across Australia during National Volunteer Week to acknowledge the valuable contributions made by volunteers.

There are almost 400 volunteers currently registered with Baw Baw Shire Council. Each day they donate their time to help run valuable programs such as Meals on Wheels, the Community Shopping Bus, Friendly Visiting Program, Social Lunches and much more to support those who need it most.

In the past year alone around 21,000 volunteer hours have been contributed and over 25,000 Meals on Wheels have been delivered across our Shire.

Australian volunteers contribute an estimated $290 billion to the national economy annually, yielding a 450 per cent return for every dollar invested.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Mikaela Power

“Volunteers are the heart and soul of our community. These everyday heroes go over and above the call of duty to help transform the lives of our many of our residents.”

National Volunteer Week is our opportunity to celebrate these generous, selfless and caring individuals. This years’ theme is “Making a world of difference”. This perfectly describes the impact our many volunteers make just by giving a little time.

“We are immensely proud of our volunteers and on behalf of the Councillors, the organisation and our wider community, we want to thank our volunteers for their service.”
