Jack’s Paddock comes to life with Livingstone Community Grants Programme

The Livingstone Community Grants programme, proudly supported by Livingstone Shire Council, Keppel Bay Sailing Club and Inverness Yeppoon, provides funding to community groups and sporting clubs to deliver innovative projects and programmes which respond to the needs of the local community.

Jack’s Paddock Incorporated. located on the corner of Ross and Power Streets in Yeppoon received a grant earlier this year to install an irrigation system which President Berni Jakstas said was essential to getting the community garden up and running.

“Because of the water, we’ve been able to plant 23 fruit trees, establish a native hedge and we’re about to start our first raised garden beds so our senior citizens and people with disabilities can also enjoy the garden,” Berni said.

“Council has been very supportive of the project and we encourage other community groups to apply for these grants because they provide a lot of benefits.”

Acting Mayor Nigel Hutton said that over the 2018/2019 financial year the Livingstone Community Grants allocated almost $70,000, contributing to over $150,000 worth of local community projects.

“A range of initiatives were funded across the Livingstone Shire including shade shelters for sporting clubs, a communication system for theatre group, electronic timers for an agricultural show, suicide prevention resources, rock climbing harnesses as well as various tools and equipment to improve groups and clubs overall functionality,” Cr Hutton said.

“Council would like to sincerely thank its financial partners Keppel Bay Sailing Club and Inverness Yeppoon, as without their support; these grants would not be possible.

“Congratulations to all of the successful applicants, we look forward to seeing your projects come to fruition and contributing to making our region a better place.”

Community Development and Support spokesperson, Councillor Jan Kelly, said it’s extremely heartening to see important community activities such as Jack’s Paddock and other projects across our Shire bringing positive change to our local communities by their broad range of initiatives.

“The next Livingstone Community Grants funding round will open later this year. This will give local not-for-profit community organisations the opportunity to apply for up to $2000 to support an initiative which may assist each organisation to reach their goal. As a result each project supports their broader community through their activities,” Cr Kelly said.

Inverness Yeppoon Project Manager Alison Craggs said their company was proud to continue to be a partner in such a vital community initiative.

Keppel Bay Sailing Club Manager Julie Strudwick said the groups selected each round all work hard to make our region a better place and KBSC is always pleased to support the programme and the many benefits it brings to our communities.
