Boaters are enjoying improved access to Lake Jindabyne with more than $1.3 million in upgrades to the access road at the Jindabyne Boat Ramp.
The project was funded through a $650,000 contribution from the NSW Government, $250,000 from Snowy Hydro Ltd and $163,000 from Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor John Rooney said the upgrade is a win for the local boating community and visitors who travel to Lake Jindabyne for its well-known fishing.
“The upgrade demonstrates what can be achieved with a combined effort and funding from the NSW Government, Snowy Monaro Regional Council and Snowy Hydro,” Mayor Rooney said.
“Local residents and visitors will now be able to access the lake safely and efficiently, and do all of the recreational boating activities they enjoy.”
Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro joined representatives from Snowy Hydro Ltd, Roads and Maritime Service, the boating community and Snowy Monaro Regional Council for the official opening of the upgraded Jindabyne Boat Ramp access road.
At a celebration held on Thursday 23 May, Mr Barilaro said the project provides boaters with safer and easier access to the lake.
“When existing infrastructure is improved the community benefits as a whole,” Mr Barilaro said.
“We know already how valuable Lake Jindabyne is to the tourism of this region. This boat ramp upgrade will be an asset to the community of Jindabyne”
Snowy Hydro Chief Executive Officer Paul Broad said the improved access road will further enhance Lake Jindabyne’s appeal to locals and tourists.
“Snowy Hydro has been a proud supporter and member of the local community for almost 70 years and many Snowy staff and their families live in Jindabyne,” Mr Broad said.
“Lake Jindabyne was built as part of the Snowy Scheme in the 1960s and it’s a fantastic attraction for the region.
“Safety is a core value for us at Snowy Hydro. We have committed $250,000 to upgrade the road to make access to the boat ramp safer for locals and visitors.”
