Council is excited to be welcoming highly regarded access consultant Melissa James to Lithgow to highlight to businesses and customer service staff the ways in which they can make their business more accessible and welcoming to all.

“Inclusive tourism is for everybody. It means disabled and non-disabled, slow walkers, people with crutches or walking sticks, children on holiday with grandparents, it means groups enjoying trips together,” said Melissa James, CEO and Founder of Inclusive Tourism.

Council is hosting the workshops as part of its commitment to the Disability Inclusion Action Plan; that promotes accessibility and opportunity within the Lithgow LGA.  Part of the plan’s aim is to assist businesses and the community to become more accessible.

Not only are accessible and inclusive experiences in our community a moral and legal responsibility, they also make good business sense.  According to Local Government NSW the Inclusive Tourism market is set to experience high growth rates as the population ages.

Three free workshops will run from 3rd to 5th of June and at the Lithgow Visitor Information Centre. Two sessions will be aimed at Business Operators and the other for Customer Service staff. Registrations are necessary as places are limited. You can register by visiting Council’s website http://council.lithgow.com/inclusive-business-and-tourism-workshops/
