I’m continually amazed at the generosity of the Snowy Monaro community. Over the weekend, our community came together to support the latest fundraiser from the Monaro Committee for Cancer Research (mcCr), the Monaro Spectacular.
This wonderful fundraiser saw locals, most of whom had little dancing experience, take to the stage to perform some of our favourite Broadway numbers. Held over three nights, five teams showcased their talents as part of this extravaganza.
The Monaro Spectacular raised an incredible $230,000 to support the mcCr’s ongoing efforts. The not-for-profit organisation funds local cancer care facilities and facilitates the Financial Assistance Scheme that supports individuals and families struggling with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Councillor Brian Old was one of 44 local dancers involved in the production. Clr Old was a member of the popular Mountain Groovers. Well done Clr Old, and everyone who was involved in the Monaro Spectacular. What a wonderful event!
Last week, Cooma Library hosted National Simultaneous Storytime. Around 60 school children were in attendance to listen to Councillor James Ewart read Alpacas with Maracas. Clr Ewart delivered a highly entertaining reading.
Workshops on managing African Lovegrass are still being held throughout the Snowy Monaro.
The next workshop will take place on Sunday 2 June in the Numeralla Hall from 10am. Landholders are encouraged to attend to provide Council with feedback on how best to manage the perennial weed.
To have your say, you can attend a workshop or fill out a survey on Council’s Your Say platform or in hardcopy from any Council office. A list of the remaining workshops can be found on Your Say or by contacting Council on 1300 345 345.
Following the success of the No Stopping Areas along the Lake Jindabyne foreshore last winter, these areas will again be enforced for the coming season. The signage placed between Curiosity Rocks and Poo Bay is targeted at the influx of overnight camping during the winter season.
