Works to begin on Kyneton Library upgrade

Works to improve and upgrade Kyneton Library to ensure it better meets community needs are about to begin.

The library’s heating and cooling system has already been upgraded to make the library a more comfortable community space. Early next month, work will start on construction of a new entrance and roof.

The project is expected to take about two months and is a partnership between Council, Goldfields Library Corporation and the Victorian Government. The library will remain open during the works, with every effort made to minimise disruption.

Council’s Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce and Goldfields Library Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Mark Hands both welcomed the news.

“Along with residents, we look forward to seeing the completed improvements,” Cr Pearce said. “Remodelling the entrance so that it faces the playground and improving the area leading to the entrance will make the library more welcoming and accessible for everyone.”

“We love that people come into the library and stay for a while, let their children play, catch up with friends and borrow some items or use our free wi-fi,” Mr Hands said. “Creating a more welcoming, comfortable space is the first step in that.”

The Victorian Government will contribute $150,000 to the works as part of its Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, and Council will contribute $100,000.

Staff areas will be upgraded at the same time, and these works were funded in Council’s 2018/19 budget.

The four libraries in the shire – Kyneton, Woodend, Gisborne and Romsey – are managed by Goldfields Library Corporation on behalf of Council.
