Gannawarra Shire Council is continuing to support and celebrate Senior Club Birthdays throughout the shire, by providing an annual free two course luncheon to all members.
The first of these community celebrations for 2019 occurred on Wednesday, 22 May at Murrabit, where more than 20 members celebrated the Murrabit Senior Citizens Club birthday.
Senior Clubs play a vital role within smaller regional communities to help keep our older residents socially active.
“One of Council’s aims, as outlined in the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021, is to promote strong and healthy communities. Supporting the senior citizen groups that operate within the Gannawarra is one way to actively encourage social connectedness,” Deputy Mayor, Cr Charlie Gillingham said.
“We are fortunate to have eight senior citizen groups operating within the Gannawarra, providing regular event and activity opportunities for residents to attend.”
Council actively promotes numerous initiatives within the shire that enhance community involvement, such as our Social Meals program and annual Victorian Seniors Festival month.
“Council congratulates the Murrabit Senior Citizens Club on its recent birthday and encourages all our older residents to join a local Senior Club. Let’s work together to reduce social isolation within our regional area,” Cr Gillingham said.
