What attracts international students to the Toowoomba Region?

As part of the Study Toowoomba initiative, international students are being asked to have their say on what they love about our region, what attracted them here and how to best market Toowoomba to fellow international students.

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio said students would get an opportunity to participate at a free Hackathon event facilitated by edu-tourism provider Camp Cooby between 21 and 23 June.

“Study Toowoomba is the centrepiece of a new public campaign to help the Toowoomba Region become a national and international education destination of choice,” he said.

“The International Education Hackathon, which is part of that program, is open to all ages and includes transport, food, activities and the opportunity to network with fellow students, business people and community members.”

With places limited and prizes on offer, interested students are encouraged to register for the Hackathon as soon as possible. For more information, please contact Rachel Coe or Tanya Hall at Camp Cooby on 4696 6244 or via [email protected].

Following last year’s decision by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) to establish Study Toowoomba, progress has continued with the initial management committee elected earlier this month.

Representatives on the Study Toowoomba management committee include core members, TRC, the University of Southern Queensland and TAFE Queensland. Representatives from a number of leading schools in the region also accepted nominations for the remaining positions on the committee.

“Education and training is the second largest employer by industry in the Toowoomba Region and is expected to create more than 4000 additional jobs by 2041, so the establishment of this program will no doubt benefit the entire region,” Mayor Antonio said.

“Our region is serious about being an education hub and the establishment of Study Toowoomba will initiate a major campaign to attract students not only from within Australia, but internationally.”

These projects are co-funded with the support of the Queensland Government’s International Education and Training Partnership Fund, managed by Study Queensland within Trade and Investment Queensland. The launch of Study Toowoomba has been made possible through a grant of $145,000 over two years, with matching funding being provided by Toowoomba Regional Council and the University of Southern Queensland.
