Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) is encouraging residents and visitors to have their say on new look signage heralding the region, its towns, attractions and places of interest.

The concept signage has been developed to reflect a number of consistent themes and highlight the region’s history, and natural and built character.

CCRC Tourism and Economic Development spokesman Cr Ben Heath said promoting the region’s attractions and what it had to offer aimed to boost business and economic activity and encourage tourists and visitors to turn off the highway and stay longer.

“The drive tourism market accounts for the majority of Cassowary Coast’s tourism income,” Cr Heath said.

“The Cassowary Coast Wayfinding and Signage Strategy is a significant project in expanding this income stream. Consistent and up-to-date signage will connect visitors and locals with natural attractions, retail areas, dining areas, historical walks and local facilities.

“It will provide opportunities for visitors and locals to use and value the region’s public spaces, unique heritage and natural assets that set us apart from everywhere else.”

Development of the concept designs is the first project to be implemented from the Cassowary Coast Wayfinding and Signage Strategy, which aims to enhance visitor and local experience within the Cassowary Coast region.

The strategy recommends three regional entry statements, eight major town entry statements and approximately 56 new town entry statements throughout the region.

Council is also working closely with Traditional Owners who will provide artwork for the regional entry statements and major town entry statements.

The project is part of Council’s overall plan to encourage and facilitate significant and sustainable growth, diversity and value-adding.

Council will consider all feedback, ideas and suggestions to refine and develop the final signage designs prior to construction and encourages the community to have its say on the draft concept signage.

The public comment period will remain open until June 28, 2019. Have your say on the designs through the consultation portal www.wayfinding.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au or by emailing the project team via [email protected].
