Residents in the Yass Valley Community will have the chance to get up close and personal with Outer Space, when Optus bring their Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) Roadshow to Yass on Tuesday, 28 May 2019.
Children enjoying virtual reality experience
Optus is running a series of free virtual and augmented reality workshops in partnership with Think Digital, providing the community with a look in to how the technology is being used to educate and inspire through immersive story telling.
Optus Territory General Manager for the Central West, Tom O’Dea is excited for the community to be able to access the latest in thought leadership and technology.
“It is often difficult for residents in regional communities to gain access to these types of experiences so Optus is proud to be able to bring this roadshow to Yass,” Mr O’Dea said.
“On the day, residents will have access to the best in VR and AR technology and will be able to learn and experience outer space in a way that they never have before.”
“The fantastic thing about VR and AR is it allows people to feel like they are a part of the story rather than just passively viewing it, it adds a whole new dimension to learning.” Mr O’Dea said.
Yass Library Co-Ordinator, Kimberly Hughes said the library is excited to be able to help bring a new form of learning to the residents of Yass Valley.
“New and emerging technology like the VR and AR session is just one way we can continue to provide an educational service to our community,” Mrs Hughes said.
The specially designed Optus and Think Digital bus will be parked outside of Memorial Hall in Yass on Tuesday 28 May from 1.30pm – 2.30pm.
Limited spots are available and bookings are essential. Call Yass Library on 6226 1305 to secure your spot.
Please note the virtual reality and augmented reality session is not suitable for people with epilepsy.
