Sydneysiders can meet around 50 local disability service providers at the City of Sydney's first disability expo at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday 22 June.
The expo gives people with disability, their families and carers access to information about disability service providers in the local area and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Disability services in NSW have recently changed from a state-based service system to individual funding under the NDIS.
"With recent changes in how disability services are funded, people are looking for information on how to access support in the local area," said Lord Mayor Clover Moore.
"Choosing appropriate support services, whether it's help with daily living, social activities or other needs, is a very personal experience and it's important to know what's available.
"Language can be an additional barrier to accessing services. Many of our residents speak a language other than English at home, and we want to ensure everybody can access the services they need."
The City provides a number of inclusive programs and services including gentle exercise, Meals on Wheels, chair yoga and Auslan storytime in our libraries.
Support services operating in the City of Sydney, Randwick and Waverly council areas will be at the event.
Information sessions will also take place at the expo. Topics include how to access NDIS services, inclusive social, sport and recreation activities, access to the NDIS for children under seven, and mental health and the NDIS.
The expo is supported by Waverley and Randwick Councils and is an accessible event. Auslan and language interpreters will attend. Information sessions will be live captioned. In a first for a City of Sydney event, Bindimaps indoor wayfinding technology will be available for people who are blind or vision impaired.
