Kangaroo Island's two newest councillors Rosalie Chirgwin and Peter Tiggemann were sworn in a ceremony before the council's informal gathering on Thursday, May 30.
The two councillors were elected unopposed after they were the only two to nominate for the two vacancies created by the resignation of councillors Sharon Kauppila and Larry Turner.
KI election liaison officer Gerard Snowball oversaw the ceremony and Justice of the Peace Darry Fraser stamped the signatures.
KI Mayor Michael Pengilly welcomed the two new councillors, who got straight down to business with the other councillors, discussing the Island's economic future as part of the informal gathering.
Peter Tiggemann was born in Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula where his mother hails from as there was not a doctor on the Island at the time of his birth.
He grew up KI, taking on the position of junior clerical officer with the District Council of Kingscote straight after graduating from the Kingscote school in 1977.
He worked for the Kingscote council for 13 years before moving to Far North Queensland to take on the position of deputy CEO with the Etheridge Shire Council.
He then served as CEO of the Croydon Shire Council for five years and the CEO of Boulia Shire Council for three years.
Most recently, he bought and managed a pub at Balaklava for the last three years before moving back to KI.
Rosalie Chirgwin is a fifth generation Islander, living all her life on the family farm at Cygnet River. She served as a councillor on the KI Council from 2010 to 2012.
She said she ran for the council again because she is concerned about the erosion of private property rights.
She said she also wanted better financial management at the council, with ratepayers' money going to services and not administration.
