Happy World Environment Day

We're marking World Environment Day by celebrating a range of initiatives to protect, preserve and enhance our natural environment.

As custodians of 17kms of Port Phillip Bay foreshore and iconic natural landmarks such as Dendy Street Beach, Red Bluff Cliffs, Half Moon Bay, Ricketts Point, Beaumaris Bay and the Beaumaris fossil site as well as our wonderful parks, gardens and heathland sanctuaries, Council is working hard to protect and enhance our environment.

Here are just some of the things we are doing:

Banning single use plastics from Council operations and premises from 1 July 2019 Investigating a ban on smoking on Bayside beaches Introducing food waste recycling into our green waste bins from 15 July to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill Becoming carbon neutral in our operations by 2020 Supporting local community groups to help keep our beaches and streets clean from rubbish Conserving and selling locally indigenous plants at the Bayside Community Nursery Working with local businesses to reduce energy consumption and costs Moving to renewable energy for all Council operations including installing solar panels on Council owned buildings including kindergartens.

We've still got a long way to go and much more to do to protect and preserve Bayside's natural places and spaces.
