Businesses throughout the region have been recognised and their achievements celebrated at the 2019 Snowy Monaro Business Awards.

Now in its second year, the Business Awards showcase the important role local businesses play in strengthening the Snowy Monaro’s economy.

I had the pleasure of speaking at the awards dinner on Friday at the Station, Jindabyne. A fantastic night was enjoyed by business operators, owners and supporters of our local businesses.

In the Snowy Monaro, we are fortunate to have an abundance of expertise and experience within our business sector.

A lot of the hard work in this sector goes unnoticed. The Business Awards provide a perfect opportunity to acknowledge this hard work.

Council is proud to work with the Cooma Chamber of Commerce, the Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce and the business community, to develop an awards program that is highly regarded amongst the region’s businesses.

Well done to all the nominees, finalists and award winners.

Also on the night, Council received an award from Service NSW in recognition of our support of the Easy to do Business initiative.

The Easy to do Business program is helping entrepreneurs across the Snowy Monaro region fulfil their business dreams, and open their doors earlier. The program targets entrepreneurs wishing to open a café, restaurant, or small bar.

Deni Redwin from Service NSW spoke of the partnership between Council, the NSW Government and our local business community. The program is designed to ensure new businesses get off to a great start and I commend Service NSW on establishing this excellent program.

The June long weekend is almost upon us and this signals the official start to the snow season. With decent snowfalls already, it’s shaping as a bumper season.

I urge all motorists to take care on the region’s roads and drive to the conditions.

Workshops continue this week to discuss the management of African Lovegrass. For a list of the remaining workshops or to have your say through a survey, please visit Your Say Snowy Monaro or drop by any Council office.
