Construction to begin on new footpath for Drouin

Construction will soon begin on the installation of a new 170 metre footpath along Young Street, Drouin to improve safety, access and connectivity for pedestrians.

The new concrete footpath, which is part of Baw Baw Shire Council’s 2018/19 Capital Works New Footpath Program, will run along the northern side of Young Street and Bank Place to the existing Young Street carpark.

The scope of the project also allows for sustainable landscaping improvements, which will see mulch applied underneath the avenue of Quercus palustris trees (Pin Oaks) that are in the central median between Bank Place and Woolworths. This mulching will benefit the health of the trees and eliminate mowing.

There will also be additional development of garden areas which will add amenity value and further beautify the current environment.

The project is fully funded by Council and has a total estimated cost of $110,000.

Construction is scheduled to commence in early June and is expected to be completed by 30 June 2019, weather permitting.

The works will be carried out between 9.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Full traffic management will be in place during the construction period to alleviate potential adverse impacts on traffic flows and pedestrian movements.
