Council staff investigated a road surface fault in Knight Street, Lithgow, on Tuesday, 4 June 2019. Further inspection revealed a collapsed, brick storm water channel which was constructed in the early 1900s, which connects storm water pits located on each side of the road. Unfortunately, as the collapsed channel has failed, the road surface and the road has been closed in the interest of public safety. Detours will be in place until repair works are complete.

Council’s Infrastructure Services will replace the failed brick channel with concrete pipes once replacement products arrive on site as the storm water channel is active and in service. The estimated time to replace the failed storm water channel and reestablish the road is approximately 2 weeks. The undamaged bricks will be stored at Council’s depot and repurposed as required.

Council thanks the Lithgow community for their patience, and will rectify the issue as soon as possible.
