Kristen Flynn, winner of First Place in the 2018 Regional Artists’ Exhibition
The Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition organisers invite local artists to enter their artwork in the annual art display.
Every year this exhibition is collaboratively planned and presented by the three major Western Downs galleries, Dogwood Crossing, Gallery 107 @ Dalby and Lapunyah Art Gallery.
The exhibition rotates amongst the art galleries with this year’s to be hosted by the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery at Dogwood Crossing, Miles.
Artists over the age of 14 that live and/or work in the Western Downs are invited to submit artwork in any media they prefer in response to this year’s theme, Inside Out.
Inside Out hopes to inspire artists to connect with their creative essence and demonstrate this through their work.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is excited to see the imagination in the entries this community-based exhibition will bring this year.
“Inside Out encourages playful and innovative thinking which we hope will produce some unexpected and creative pieces,” she said.
“I can’t wait to see how our local artists interpret the theme and what mediums and techniques are used to bring their ideas to life.
“It’s fantastic that our region has programs in place which encourage and support arts and cultural participation within the community.”
Entrants may submit up to four artworks that have not been previously exhibited in an exhibition, show or competition in the region.
All artists who enter the exhibition will be represented in the curator’s exhibition selection and will appear in the exhibition catalogue.
There are a number of awards to be won worth a total prize pool of $2,150.
These prizes include first, second and third place, People’s Choice, Installers Award and the Young Artist Award.
The presentation of prizes will take place on the exhibition opening night on Saturday 19 October 2019 from 5.30pm.
Entries due 5 August 2019.
