Northern Beaches Councillor snares major award

Northern Beaches Councillor Roslyn Harrison was this week formally recognised for her supreme work ethic, taking home a major honour from the 12th annual Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government.

The mother of three and former Deputy Mayor of Warringah Council was the joint-winner of the Elected Representative from a Metropolitan Council category, sharing the honour with Liverpool City Councillor Wendy Waller.

Before she became a primary school teacher, Cr Harrison spent 20 years working in various government departments which included curriculum development with the Board of Studies, marketing for WorkCover and managing National Youth Week.

She has also been president of Northern Beaches Multiple Birth Association, Forestville Public School Parents & Citizens Association as well as sitting on numerous northern beaches committees the past couple of decades.

Shelley Hancock, the Minister for Local Government, paid tribute to all the winners and finalists at the function out of NSW Parliament House on Thursday.

“All the winners of this year’s awards have broken through barriers, led and encouraged other women as well as tackled some of the complex issues facing communities through creativity and innovation,’’ she said.

“They have all been a shining light, leading the way for their respective Councils.”
