The redeveloped Ballarat North Community Centre will reopen to the community as part of a special celebration on Thursday at 1.30pm.

The building, first opened in 1973 as the Ballarat North Senior Citizen Club Rooms, has been transformed into a contemporary community hub, with upgraded meeting rooms, updated toilet amenities and new kitchen facilities. 

The works, implemented as part of the Midlands Reserve Master Plan, have improved and enhanced the program spaces, boosted access and improved emergency standards.  

The renovation, which first began in 2016, included removing the redundant stage, increasing the floor space of the main hall, upgrading the foyer area and north entrance, while adding external cladding, a new roof and solar panels. Major works are now underway on the north carpark. 

The revamped centre will improve liveability of the Ballarat North area, encourage connected communities, promote accessibility and inclusion for all, and promote life-long learning and being socially active. 

The centre is one of the most popular community facilities in Ballarat. More than 70 hours of community programs are delivered at the venue each week.  

The centre is home to three local organisations – Ballarat North Senior Citizens, Ballarat University of the Third Age (U3A) and the Genesis Church. Their combined membership of more than 1,200 people was engaged and actively involved in the concept plans. 

The City of Ballarat’s Engaged Communities team led the community consultation around the project design and also worked with user groups at the site, helping them find alternative accommodation throughout the works.
