The lived experiences of people with a disability, parents and carers, and community service providers will be shared in a panel discussion at the second event for Wollongong City Libraries’ Pride Month.

“Same Same but Different will tackle awkward issues about dating, identity, family dynamics, mental health and prejudice,” Wollongong City Council Manager Library and Community Services Jenny Thompson said.

The panellists, including Bronson Lloyd, Topia Ryan-Jones, Sam Noonan, and Tanya McGee, are part of the LGBTQIA+ and disability communities, and will be sharing their experiences.

Panellist Penelope Desmazures, the Executive Manager of event co-host The Disability Trust, said they are very excited to be part of Pride Month celebrations this year.

“The Trust is committed to doing all we can to support our staff and clients to live the lives they choose, free from discrimination.”

“One way we can do this is by providing information and education to the community through events such as Same Same but Different,” she said.

Pride Month in June is part of Wollongong City Libraries’ focus on offering diverse events and activities, with events planned to enhance literacy, creativity and inclusion within our local community.

Pride Month is an opportunity for the community to celebrate and reflect on life for our LQBTQIA+ community, and is in line with goals in the Wollongong City Libraries 2017-2022 Strategy.
