If you’re looking to take up a new interest or pursue your creative calling, now’s the time to browse Wyreena’s Term 3 program, which is full of creative and lifestyle courses from July through to mid-September.
The term 3 program includes one-day workshops, as well as courses catering for adults and children. Enrolments open Monday 17 June.
Each term, Wyreena Community Arts Centre offers a range of short and regular courses in the creative arts that are tailored for absolute beginners through to more advanced students.
Wyreena’s program includes courses in drawing, painting, pottery, mosaics, yoga, and more, as well as one-day maker’s workshops, term programs for adults with special needs, and an age-streamed children’s arts program conveniently held after school hours during school terms.
New to this term’s program is a nine-week silver smithing course designed for adults eager to try their hand at jewellery making. For those wanting something a bit more adventurous, there’s a one-day circus skills workshop – a great introduction for those looking to improve coordination, strength and confidence in a fun environment.
Also new to the program is a creative writing workshop. Participants will be guided by published author, Eliza Henry-Jones, who will teach adults how to write the story they’ve always wanted to tell.
For something calm and restorative, there are weekly classes in yoga – including a half-day yoga retreat on Saturday 3 August – that provide a great way to relax, while also increasing wellbeing and flexibility.
Wyreena offers many art courses specifically developed for and tailored to adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, which empowers people to explore art alongside their carer.
For children aged 7 to 12 years who love to think outside the box, Wyreena’s new Become an Entrepreneur workshop will engage youngsters in entrepreneurial thinking and help foster their enterprising spirit. If performing is more their thing, the Performing Arts course provides a welcoming space for them to tap into their theatrical side.
Children aged 5 to 7 years can explore the Young Artist’s Studio using mixed media, as well as learn how to draw. There’s also painting, construction, collage and pottery programs for children aged eight and over, and an intermediate program designed for teens aged 11 and over.
Wyreena has also launched its winter school holiday program, which is full of fun and creative workshops, from Monday 1 July to Wednesday 10 July.
Workshops vary from circus performing, clay creations, as well as the opportunity to get an up-close look at real-life feathery, furry and scaly creatures, including a sugar glider possum, owl and crocodile.
