Councillor message - 2019 Great Western Games - Cr Sonia Bennetto

The time is fast approaching for members of our local participating sporting clubs to compete in the 2019 Glencore Great Western Games.

Hosted by the North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF), the Great Western Games is a multi-sport event held biennially along the Overlander’s Way, from Charters Towers to Mt Isa. 

The 2019 games will take place over the weekends of 22-23 June and 29-30 June 2019.  In Charters Towers, we will proudly be hosting boxing, golf, tennis, karting and athletics.

Participating sports clubs have recently received their Glencore Great Western Games competitor packs and hats, which are supplied to every competitor involved in an event.

The Great Western Games provides a great opportunity to celebrate, promote and support our region’s great sports diversity and local sporting talent.

I encourage members of our community to attend as many of the local events as possible, in support of our region’s competitors, clubs and event organisers.

I wish the very best of luck to all who are participating in the 2019 Great Western Games and look forward to spectating at our exciting local events.
