Chinatown Team to keep up momentum

Released 13 June 2019

The Chinatown Revitalisation Project may be wrapping up, but it isn’t the end – it’s just the beginning.

Broome Shire President, Harold Tracey, says we now need the community to lead the activation and promotion of the town centre and to achieve this the Shire has committed funding to form the “Chinatown Team”.

“There’s only so much that governments and consultants and contractors can do - now we need our community to take up the baton and continue the momentum that we’ve started,” Cr Tracey says.

“All through this project we’ve had a long-term view, and so with some of the funding we created a ‘Chinatown Place Making Management Plan’ to help guide the ongoing revitalisation of Chinatown once the immediate project was finished.

“So if you live in Broome and you love Broome, we’d like you to be involved.”

The Chinatown Team will support and guide the direction of activations, events and promotions for Chinatown and anyone interested should email [email protected]
