The Queensland Government has committed $5.8 million to continue to progressively seal the Burke Developmental Road.
Member for Cook Cynthia Lui made the announcement following Tuesday’s State Budget.
Mareeba Shire Mayor Tom Gilmore welcomed the funding commitment: “This is wonderful news for the Shire,” he said.
“For many years Council has been advocating to continue the upgrade of the road between Almaden and Chillagoe and I am simply delighted to see money being allocated to the BDR.”
Cr Gilmore praised local member Cynthia Lui for securing the funds. “Congratulations to Cynthia for her efforts on behalf of the community, in achieving a major milestone for the sealing of the road,” Cr Gilmore said.
“We look forward to the completion of the job in the foreseeable future and thank the Queensland Government for its commitment.
“Once these works are complete, we will be another step closer to having a fully sealed road to Chillagoe,” Cr Gilmore concluded.
