Firewood Collection within the Shire

The collection of firewood from state forest within the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup by the general public for personal use is managed and administered by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

In order to preserve our local forest and prevent the spread of disease such as dieback, firewood may only be collected from areas shown on the maps below.

The following conditions apply when collecting firewood from these areas.

A maximum of one tonne every 60 days may be removed between June 1st and 30th September (half a tonne approximately equates to a 6 x 4 trailer loaded 30cm deep). Only take fallen timber. You cannot cut down any standing tree, either dead or alive, or cut or break off any part of a standing tree for firewood. Felling trees can also damage adjacent vegetation. Chainsaws must not be used on days of total fire ban or Very High, Severe, Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger. Firewood can only be collected for private use. Selling firewood is not permitted. If purchasing firewood, ensure the firewood has been sourced from sustainably managed, approved forest harvest operations and approved local firewood suppliers. You can go to the Forest Products Commission website for a list of approved suppliers.

When collecting firewood from areas outlined on the below map you do not need a permit (‘Authority’) to gather firewood in the south-west.
