Emu Park announced as new location for this year’s Free Pet Microchipping Day!

The free event will be held for the first time at Emu Park’s Bell Park from 10am – 2pm, featuring RSPCA’s popular and interactive education mobile unit – EMU, a Microchipping and registration stall, pet product service displays, and a sausage sizzle.

Local Laws Councillor Adam Belot said there would be some new additions to the event this year including an agility demonstration by the Yeppoon Yappers, and dog grooming by ‘Bath n Biscuit’.

“Council’s Disaster Management team will also be on hand to chat to residents about disaster resilience and preparedness during storm season,” Cr Belot said.

“Council introduced lifetime pet registration tags at last year’s event which will also be available this year. This means cat and dog owners will no longer need to swap their registration tags when they renew their pet registrations.

“Pet ownership is a serious responsibility, and it’s important for pet owners to take these simple steps to ensure their beloved animal is safe and can be easily identified if they were to go missing.

“All cats and dogs over the age of 12 weeks in Livingstone Shire are required to be registered by law. Residents who can’t make it on the day, are encouraged to take advantage of Council’s online registration and renewal system, available through https://www.livingstone.qld.gov.au/1054/View-Online-Services

Cr Belot and his much loved Kelpie “Codey” are looking forward to seeing you down at Bell Park for the first ever free microchipping day to be held in Emu Park.

Microchipping is free for animals registered in Livingstone Shire, (proof of your current registration is required), and $30 for those outside the Shire. New Livingstone Shire pet owners can also register their pets at pro-rata registration fees.

Although a new tag will not be issued, pet owners are still required to renew registration for their pets each year. Registration tags would only be replaced if they are lost or damaged. Pet owners are required to keep using the tags they were issued during the 2017-18 animal registration year.

Local Laws Officers will also be on hand throughout the day offering advice on managing pets. Please ensure all dogs are on leads and cats are also restrained or in sturdy carry boxes when attending the event.
