Major milestone for Briggs Park redevelopment 18 June 2019

With lighting provided on the lower oval for the first time and upgraded lighting on the upper oval, once complete the redevelopment of Briggs Park will deliver Byford its first district sporting facility.

Lighting on the upper oval can be set up to 300LUX and will allow for both night cricket and football to be played, while the lower oval can reach up to 200LUX and allow for large ball sports to be played at night.

As part of the works, the past drainage issues on the lower oval have been addressed with extensive ground works now complete, as well as new reticulation installed.

New facilities for local sporting clubs also include new goal posts on both ovals, a new cricket pitch and multi-use cricket and tee-ball nets.

The project has entered the final phase of the upgrade with the installation of new turf on the lower oval, which commenced last week. The turf will be installed by the end of June and needs 12 weeks to settle before being re-opened for the summer sporting season.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Michelle Rich said it was exciting to see the project reach the final stage.

“Once complete, both ovals will be able to be used year-round, day and night, and create a facility capable of hosting much larger competitions and events,” Cr Rich said.

“We will be able to cater large district competitions, where teams from outside the Shire can take on our local clubs at a facility that’s of a high standard and quality.”

Briggs Park is currently home to Byford Bushrangers Tee-ball Club, Mundijong Centrals Junior Football Club and Serpentine Jarrahdale Cricket Club, who combined have over 1000 members.

Financial support for the project is provided by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale as well as the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries - Sport and Recreation and the Local Projects, Local Jobs program.
