A space-themed trivia night is one of the activities planned.History buffs, space fans and residents are invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the momentous moon landing in July.
Visit Campbelltown’s HJ Daley Library to celebrate one of the defining moments in history, when ‘the Eagle landed’ and Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took their first steps onto the moon on 20 July 1969.
We will be hosting an astronomy night where you can search for the moon and planets, a space-themed intergalactic trivia night and a screening of the movie First Man.
Residents are also invited to share their souvenirs, recollections and memories of that incredible moon landing for the Moon Memories display at the library and on the website.
“The celebrations are also a chance for students and young people to hear about the moon landing from a Campbelltown perspective and the impact that incredible moment had on residents in our community,” said Mayor George Brticevic.
An estimated 650 million people around the world tuned in to watch Armstrong take his first steps on to the moon and heard him describe the moment as ‘a giant leap for mankind’.
The Apollo mission completed a national goal set by American President John F. Kennedy in 1961, to perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth by the end of the decade.
