Three lucky Maroondah residents have shared in $1,400 worth of prizes following the announcement of winners of our ‘Join the Compost Revolution - compost awareness competition’.
Councillor Marijke Graham, Chair of the Maroondah Environment Advisory Committee, congratulated the winners, who will each receive prizes to improve their garden or waste disposal.
“The winners were drawn at random from an amazing 191 entries posted at our display set-up at Realm during the school holidays, and shows the level of interest people have in wanting to take advantage of environmental initiatives,” Cr Graham said.
“Residents could enter this competition to win several prizes – all they had to do was answer a question about worms!
“Congratulations to our first prize winner, Jill (Ringwood North), runner-up Samantha (Ringwood North) and junior prize winner, William,” she said.
The winners were drawn at random on Monday 6 May:
first prize – voucher for the installation of a new garden bed runner-up – voucher for an at-home garden consultation junior prize - gardening and composting pack. The display also provided information on how to sign up to the Compost Revolution and receive a discounted compost bin, worm farm or Bokashi bucket.
In conjunction with the competition, Council recently held three free compost, worm farm and Bokashi workshops. The next free beginner compost workshop will be held on Thursday 4 July 2019.
The workshop will provide participants with all the information they need to set up and maintain a compost bin, a worm farm and a Bokashi system at home, as well as all the tips on how to turn their waste into a resource for the garden.
Cr Graham said that more and more residents in Maroondah were discovering the benefits of composting.
“Since Council began its Compost Revolution in September 2017, we have seen a huge uptake from the community, with more than 1480 households signing up for a subsidised compost system,” she said.
