Things are heating up at the St George Swimming Pool with a new $700,000 thermal springs facility being built over the coming months.
It is claimed that the minerals in the hot springs can boost blood circulation, reduce stress, promote sleep, relieve pain and heal skin problems, but the best part about the new facility is that residents and visitors will be able to use it all year round!
Mayor Richard Marsh said construction of the thermal springs pool was being funded under the State Government’s Works for Queensland program.
“Council has accepted a preliminary design for the project, approved the tender and now work can begin on a more detailed design for construction,” he said.
“This facility will put St George on the outback thermal springs trail and will not only entice visitors to dip their toes in the warm western waters, but will also provide some therapeutic aid for our locals.”
The new thermal springs facility would replace the current splash pool near the Victoria Street entrance.
Cr Marsh said Council would consider what options were available for a new splash area for the younger users of the pool.
“We will work with the community before pursuing future grant funding to create a new splash play area for the toddlers and preschoolers,” he said.
Construction of the thermal springs pool is scheduled to finish by the end of October.
