Draft Operational Plan and Budget 2019-2020
Council’s draft Operational Plan and Budget 2019-2020 - the key document guiding Council's daily activities, capital projects, budget, and fees and charges over the next twelve months - is currently on public exhibition and open for comment until 5pm Monday, 24 June 2019.
Moree Plains Shire Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Manager, Mrs Libby Carter explains there is still an opportunity for community members to submit comments on the allocation of resources and projects Council is planning to undertake in the new financial year.
“Council plays a very important role in the everyday life of our residents through the day to day services we provide. But these days, more is expected of councils. We don’t just look after the traditional roads, rates and rubbish – we now take a more leading role in delivering capital projects for our community.
“Our councillors have invested a considerable amount of time in putting together next year’s Operational Plan and Budget in order to meet the needs of our Shire now and into the future; with investment in roads, works to secure water infrastructure, improvements to community facilities and generally a focus on making the Shire a more liveable place.
“In a time when many in the Shire are doing it tough due to continuing drought conditions and a slower economy, we are pleased to say that many fees and charges have been frozen or been the subject of minimal increases. By way of example, no increases to the Tier 1, 2 and 3 water consumption or waste collection charges are proposed,” Mrs Carter said.
Next year is a big year for the Shire on many fronts, with Stage 1 of the Moree Civic Precinct Redevelopment underway and works continuing on the sealing of MR507 Carrigan Road, both of which are largely grant funded. Many community projects funded through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund will be completed during the course of the year.
The draft Plan can also be viewed at Council's Customer Service Centres in Moree and Mungindi and at the Moree Community Library.
