Flying fun these school holidays

The Gannawarra Library Service will host two weeks of bird-related events as part of next month’s Birds of a Feather school holiday program.

Events will be held at the Sir John Gorton Library, Kerang, as well as library branches at Cohuna, Leitchville and Quambatook from Tuesday, 2 July to Wednesday, 10 July.

“The Gannawarra Library Service is pleased to be running a program of events that ties in with next month’s performance of The Owl’s Apprentice at Leitchville, occurring on Friday, 12 July,” Council’s Manger of Libraries, Kerri Sidorow said.

The library service will host three events as part of the program – Terracotta Folk Art Birds, Men’s Shed Birdhouse Building and Shadow Puppetry.

Children who take part in the Terracotta Folk Art Birds sessions will be able to decorate their own terracotta birds to create a beautiful hanging. Sessions will be held at each of the library service’s branches – the Leitchville Library, located in the Rural Transaction Centre on Tuesday, 2 July at 2.30pm; Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library on Wednesday, 3 July at 2.30pm; the Cohuna Library on Monday; July 8 at 2.30pm; and the Quambatook Community Resource Centre on Wednesday, 10 July at 10.30am.

The library service has also united with the Kerang Men’s Shed for two birdhouse building sessions, occurring at the Cohuna Library on Thursday, 4 July at 11am and Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library on Tuesday, 9 July at 2pm.

“Men’s Shed members have spent the past month prefabricating the pieces for the birdhouse kits, and we look forward to seeing those who take part in this event putting these kits together,” Mrs Sidorow said.

Meanwhile, Jenny Ellis – whose creations form part of next month’s The Owl’s Apprentice series of performances – will run her Little Wing Puppets workshops at the Leitchville Library on Friday, 12 July at 1pm and Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library on Monday, 15 July at 4pm.

“Bookings for all events hosted by the Gannawarra Library Service are essential, with children attending needing to be accompanied by an adult,” Mrs Sidorow said.
