Shire President Michelle Rich joined Dowsing, the contractor appointed by the Shire to carry out civil works for the project, on site to mark the beginning of construction of the new dog park.
The $468,000 project will provide a new space for residents to exercise and socialise their dogs and will include two fenced off sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs.
Cr Rich said it was great to see work underway to deliver a new public open space in Byford.
“A dedicated dog park was identified by our community as a priority project and I am pleased that the Council is delivering on this request,” Cr Rich said.
“I know there are a lot of residents, and their dogs, who are looking forward to using the new park.” Civil works are due to be completed in July, with furniture installation and landscaping to be carried out in August.

A name for the new park will be decided in the next few months after a community competition was held to receive suggestions.
During the two-week comment period, the Shire received 145 suggestions. A short list of names will be presented to Council, who will decide on a name for the new park.
