The stage two upgrade of Nicholson Street in Orbost is expected to be completed by the end of July, according to East Gippsland Shire Council.
The main streetscape works include improvements to the footpaths, tree planting, retaining walls, furniture and general streetscape amenity between the kerb and shopfronts.
Acting Director Operations Mark Burnett said the works have been completed in sections and contractors have been working ahead of schedule to deliver the eastern side stage two of the project.
“Footpath and retaining walls are being installed in the last section of the project and the completed sections are being planted with new trees and shrubs,” Mr Burnett said.
“The upgrade will enhance the rural character of the town centre and promote a safer and pedestrian-friendly street for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
Local contractor J W Volk Pty Ltd is undertaking the project, which is funded by East Gippsland Shire Council as part of its 2018-19 $41 million capital works budget.
