Nominations open for 2019 Youth Awards

Published on 25 June 2019

Do you know a young person between 12–25 years doing amazing things in our community?

Tell us about the inspiring young people in your life by nominating them in our annual Youth Awards, which celebrate and recognise the incredible achievements of young people in the shire.

Nominations open Tuesday 11 June and can be for anyone aged 12–25 years who lives, works or attends school in the Macedon Ranges.

2018 Youth Award winner Shaylyn Blyth said the awards were a great opportunity for young people to gain recognition for their work, and encouraged everyone to get involved.

“Young people do so much in the community, and not enough of them get recognition for the amount of change they’ve created in the shire,” she said.

Shaylyn was awarded a Community Initiative Award for her volunteer efforts to increase support for and reduce discrimination against the LGBTIQ+ community.

“I’ve always been passionate about this area, and it’s devastating to see that young people in our shire are still facing discrimination on the basis of their sexuality or gender identity,” she said.

“I like making change in a positive way and I want to do as much as I possibly can in hopes of improving the mental health and lives of young people in the Macedon Ranges.”

Young people can be nominated in one of the following categories:

Arts: for excelling in the arts Academic: for giving their all to their education Business: for an exceptional employee or apprentice Sport: for excelling in a sporting endeavour Mental Health promotion: for flying the flag for youth mental health and wellbeing Community Participation: for contributing to our community in other ways.

Submissions close on Sunday 21 July.

The winners will be announced at the 2019 Youth Awards presentation night on Tuesday 20 August in Kyneton Town Hall.
