Community input is being sought into a draft, comprehensive 20-year vision – Shaping a Diverse City - for land-use planning directions in Fairfield City.

At the June Outcomes Committee Meeting, councillors voted to place the draft Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) onto public exhibition.

The LSPS sets out the 20-year vision for land-use in the local area, the special character and values that are to be preserved and how change will be managed into the future.

It identifies land use and transport planning priorities for Fairfield City and explains how these are to be delivered.

The LSPS also establishes directions to ensure that the infrastructure and services to meet the needs of the future population are planned for and the environment is managed and conserved.

The revitalisation and ongoing strategic management of city, town and local centres, employment and industrial lands and the location of more intensive residential development close to services, facilities and public transport will continue to be part of the City’s land use vision.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said it was important to preserve what makes Fairfield City special while also preparing for future growth.

“Our City is a growing City and with that comes greater demand for housing, services and infrastructure. We want this growth to be as smooth as possible, and to improve quality of life outcomes for our residents as a result,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Fairfield City is a great place to live, work and raise a family. We want this to continue to be the case for our children and grandchildren as well.

“Our City wouldn’t be a city without its people. They are what makes this City vibrant and strong. That is why I want everyone to take the opportunity to have their say in their City’s future.”

The LSPS is being developed to inform a review of the Fairfield Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2013 to align with priorities outlined in the Greater Sydney Commission's Western City District Plan and Fairfield City Council’s Fairfield City Plan.

As part of the review process a range of studies will be undertaken. These studies will also include extensive opportunities for community comment and input.
