Council has renewed their three-year funding agreement with the Kyabram Fauna Park committee of management that will see more than $150,000 fund its operation over that period.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said the funding will enhance the sustainability of the park which has experienced a number of challenges in recent years. Key areas include improving systems and processes, renovating ageing infrastructure and exhibits, increasing staff resources, and enhancing customer service and the visitor experience.
“Council has a long-standing relationship with the Kyabram Fauna Park and understands the value of the park in providing economic and social benefits for the region,” Cr Weston said.
“We are therefore committed to the future viability of the park as a valued visitor destination and a place of community pride, fondly embraced by locals over the past 40 years.”
The land on which the park is located is owned in part by Campaspe Shire Council with the remainder on Crown Land managed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). DELWP is responsible for the establishment and operation of the park’s committee of management.
An interim committee of management, comprising of representatives of DELWP, council and Zoos Victoria was appointed in July 2018, following resignations of members of the previous committee. The new committee acknowledges that there is a significant amount of work and capital required to realise the full potential of the park and all parties are committed to its long-term sustainability.
