Wastewater grants to drive small town growth

Building a new home in Corangamite’s towns not connected to town sewerage is about to get easier through the launch of the Domestic Wastewater Contribution Program.

The program aims to encourage building new houses in township areas that don’t have reticulated sewerage.

This includes Darlington, Derrinallum, Lismore, Noorat and Princetown.

Council Manager Growth and Engagement Rory Neeson said the program was designed to attract new residents to strengthen the local economy, and provide work for local tradespeople.

“Council developed the program in response to feedback that high costs associated with wastewater treatment on small blocks in these towns were a barrier to development,” Mr Neeson said.

“By creating this program, Council hopes to encourage more development in these towns, leading to increases in population and economic activity for the Shire.

“This is unique—no other councils in the state have anything like it.”

Landowners could be eligible for a one-off grant with applications now open.
