Many significant infrastructure projects have been included in 2019/20 Shire of Harvey Budget reflecting the needs of the growing population and communities in the Shire.
Harvey Shire Council adopted the 2019/20 Shire of Harvey Budget at its 25 June Ordinary Council meeting which includes a 3.5 per cent increase in general rates, with rubbish charges increased to $308.
The breakdown of the increase in the Urban Rubbish Charge is as follows:
Service Amount 2018/19 Urban Rubbish Charge $255 New Organics FOGO Bin $35 Provision for recycling cost increase $15 CPI calculated at 1.1% $3 TOTAL $308Minimum rates have increased to $1,080 per property.
Chief Executive Officer Annie Riordan said the budget had been formulated under tight fiscal constraints and a subdued economic climate, however, a balanced budget had been achieved with a general rates increase of 3.5 per cent.
“The Shire’s sound financial position provides some scope for it to absorb the challenges in the economy whilst continuing to provide infrastructure development and services for its communities,” Ms Riordan said.
Ms Riordan said this budget featured significant investment in road, drainage and footpath construction projects.
There are also two key projects that will be a game-changer in the way our volunteer services respond in an emergency with the Binningup Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Station upgrade and the new State Emergency Services Centre in Australind.
Other key projects that will benefit the community are the Harvey Sporting Pavilion extension, the next stage of the Brunswick River Cottages precinct and construction of the Ridley Place Playground.
She said planning will start in 2019/20 for the Harvey Civic Precinct and the Yarloop Community Centre will finish construction.
“This Budget seeks to deliver a responsible outcome based on the prevailing economic conditions, whilst balancing community expectations, sound asset management and the retention of services.”
