Lost Mayor rejoins colleagues

Horatio Alfred Baglee, Fairfield’s mayor in 1906, has returned to take his rightful place with his alderman peers.

Council has a gallery of past mayors adorning the public walkway leading to the Council Chambers and while the majority are in place, a few mayors’ pictures are still yet to be found.

The gallery is now closer to a full quorum with Baglee’s great granddaughter Mavis Brown sending a copy of a restored portrait of him to Council.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the gallery was an important part of the administrative history of the City.

“Many important decisions have been taken by the men and women of past councils that have helped lead this City to being the great place to live, work and play that it is today,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Today’s Council is indebted to them and honoured to be able to take our turn at leading our fantastic diverse community today.

“The gallery is also fascinating to look at the fashions in clothes, hair and for the men, facial hair over the years.

“I’d like to thank Mavis Brown for generously restoring the photo of her great grandfather and giving Council a copy.

“It’s my pleasure as the current mayor to welcome Horatio back to the fold.”
