Council has a plan to build four new basketball courts and associated facilities at the existing Sandringham Basketball Centre in Tulip Street. The planned new facilities include four new courts and associated areas.
The new courts will be built on adjacent land currently part of Sandringham Golf Course. The land for the courts has not yet been handed back to Council by the golf course operators however in anticipation of the land hand-back occurring Council has progressed the design and is preparing a planning permit application for the project.
We are currently working through the design process for the new courts with relevant representatives of the Southern Basketball Association and jointly advocating for funding.
Council has committed $4 million to the $8 million project, with the Southern Basketball Association committing $1 million upfront and $1 million paid over 20 years. Council is also seeking State Government funding for the project and will proceed once the project is fully funded.
