During the month of May and June Council has been busy promoting the ‘Dogs of the Towers’ photo competition. The competition is a fun way to increase awareness about responsible dog ownership.
With pet ownership comes many responsibilities, including providing shelter, food, water, vaccinations and medications.
Being responsible also includes registering your dog with Council.
For Council, we have a responsibility for animal management. We ensure lost pets are returned safely to their owners, to educate pet owners, to enforce local laws including dog attacks, barking dogs and wandering dogs.
With this responsibility comes a cost. To offset these costs we charge pound fees, issue animal infringements fines and charge a dog registration.
So, this July, I want to encourage all dog owners to register their dog and if you do it in July you’ll receive a 50% discount (excluding pension 1st dog and regulated dog registration) on registration fees.
When a dog is registered, rangers can more easily return a dog if it becomes lost or decides to go for a wander.
If you have any questions about pet ownership, please call one of our Rangers on 4761 5300.
