NYE Ticketing

Ticketing is being introduced for North Sydney’s four prime vantage points this NYE.

North Sydney Council voted on Monday 24 June to ticket four sites for NYE 2019 - Bradfield Park, Blues Point Reserve, Mary Booth Reserve and Quibaree Park.

Tickets will cost $10 plus booking fee, with residents and ratepayers given first priority for up to 20% of tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

The decision comes in response to NSW Police advocating for ticketing on NYE to help reduce overflow crowds and improve crowd safety. 

Mayor Jilly Gibson said,

The safety of our residents and visitors is of paramount importance and we couldn’t ignore the advice of police that more stringent management is needed for NYE.

Ticketing will help reduce the number of overflow crowds on our streets and ensure everyone who enters the reserve has had their bag checked. This will significantly improve crowd safety.

We know that people love coming to North Sydney for NYE and while we need to manage crowd safety, we kept the ticket price to a minimum cost so that it was open to as many people as possible. 

Council already spends $400,000 a year on NYE to cover the cost of providing safety barriers, bag checks, toilets, security and other crowd control measures.

Ticketing at $10 will not cover the cost to Council which will continue to subsidise the event, but will cover the additional cost of operating a ticketing system.  

Tickets are expected to go on sale in September.
